"May 2010 be a year of generous giving, sharing the gifts we have been given, and reaching out to those in need."

The June 11 & 12th 2010 Midwest Regional Meeting of the SVDP Society,
"Bread for the Journey" was an outstanding success. Vincentians from six states participated in this hands-on workshop and left with new insights and tools for reaching out to those in need. The Midwest Regional President stated that this meeting was the largest on record for the region.

The meeting began on June 11th with a musical interlude of spiritually moving music provided by musicians from Most Precious Blood Catholic Church. The music was followed by a keynote address delivered by Fr. Hugh O'Donnell CM, he talked about the nature of service and how we are called to serve & give. He also shared a number of interesting insights to the early work of St.s Vincent & Louise. Immediately following his talk participants engaged in group reflections based on the "Rivers of Life" discussion format.

Friday evening attendees took off for all parts of Denver, some journeyed to the Colorado Rockies/Toronto Blue Jays baseball game, others found a desired restaurant or discovered the shopping at Park Meadows Mall.

Saturday morning began with a bi-lingual scriptural Rosary and a continental breakfast. The President and the Executive Director of the National SVDP Society updated attendees on what is happening Society wide both nationally and internationally. Especially interesting and important was a discussion of the role Twinning is playing in Latin America. It should be noted that at the end of the meeting the Red Bag was passed around and $507.64 was collected and sent to the National office for use in Latin America.

Their session was followed by the Midwest Regional President who reviewed what is happening throughout the Midwest Region and discussed administrative issues and future regional meetings.

After lunch St. Louise de Marillac made a personal appearance and set the stage for five different break-out sessions all dealing with contemporary issues on the topic of preparing for the journey. From her comments it is apparent St. Louise has retained the vigor and commitment manifested in her early work with St. Vincent

The last day of the meeting was closed with a Mass celebrated by Fr. Hugh O'Donnell and the banquet.

Attendee evaluations suggest this first ever Denver hosted meeting was a "Home Run." A big thank you to all who attended and to those Denver Vincentians who worked hard to make this meeting happen.
